What fits in a 10-yard dumpster?
The 10-yard holds about 3 to 5 pickup loads. It's built for small, heavy jobs: one bathroom, a patio slab, or a fence and shed teardown. Light debris rarely tops 2 tons in this size, but tile, concrete and dirt can reach it fast.
- A full bathroom gut: tub, tile, vanity and drywall (typical)
- A 10 × 12 ft concrete patio at 4 in thick, about 1.5 cubic yards of solid concrete (typical)
- A one-room carpet and pad tear-out
- Yard cleanup after a fence or shed teardown
Pickup loads assume an 8-ft bed loaded level. Examples are typical, not guaranteed.
Will my load go over 2 tons?
A 10-yard full of drywall demolition weighs about 4,670 lb, using EPA's 467 lb per cubic yard for gypsum board. That's 670 lb over the 2-ton limit, which costs $25.13. Tile and plaster run heavier.
Concrete, dirt, brick and sand are welcome in the 10-yard, loaded only halfway up the walls. Unmixed loads, such as concrete only, qualify for clean-fill pricing. Ask for that rate when you call.
The scale ticket from the landfill is attached to your final invoice, so you see the exact weight. How dumpster weight is billed.

Will a 10-yard dumpster fit on my driveway?
A 10-yard is the easiest size to place: it needs a 12 × 8 ft spot, about the size of one parked car. It usually leaves the other half of a two-car driveway open. The truck typically still needs about 60 ft of straight approach and about 23 ft of overhead clearance.

Is the 10-yard too small or too big?
Choose the 10-yard over the 15-yard when the debris is heavy or the job is one room. Move up to a 15-yard for a garage or a small roof. Heavy debris can't go bigger than a 15-yard, so a large slab means two 10-yard hauls, not one big bin.
| Size | L × W × H | Included | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-yard (this size) | 12 × 8 × 3.5 ft | 2 tons | Concrete, dirt, brick or a small bathroom remodel |
| 15-yard (bigger) | 16 × 7.5 × 4.5 ft | 2.5 tons | Too big means paying for space you don't use. |
What can't go in the 10-yard?
The 10-yard takes heavy debris, so the rules that matter most are the half-full line and clean loads. Keep concrete separate from trash to get clean-fill pricing. Hazardous chemicals, wet paint and batteries are never allowed. Mattresses, tires and Freon appliances are $50 each.
- No chemicals
- No wet paint
- No batteries
- Mattress $50
- Tire $50
- Freon appliance $50
10-yard dumpster questions
Can I fill a 10-yard dumpster with concrete?
Concrete can fill a 10-yard only halfway up the walls. A full load would exceed legal highway weight. Keep the load to concrete only to get clean-fill pricing.
Will a 10-yard dumpster fit in my driveway?
A 10-yard needs a 12 ft by 8 ft spot, about the size of one parked car. The truck typically needs about 60 ft of straight approach to set it down.
Is a 10-yard big enough for a bathroom remodel?
A 10-yard holds a typical full bathroom gut, including the tub, vanity, tile and drywall. Tile and mortar are heavy, so keep an eye on the 2-ton limit.
How many trash bags fit in a 10-yard dumpster?
A level 10-yard holds roughly 3 to 5 pickup loads of debris. Bags compress, so the count depends on what's inside them. Break furniture down to fit more.
